What a fantastic fundraiser! There was great food, lots of raffle prizes, a silent auction and of course lots of dogs. Thank you K9 Connection for all you do for the dogs and the kids. You are all amazing!

For those interested in coming to next year’s bash, be sure to sign up for their mailing list. And if you want to donate to the cause, you can do that at any time!

S.T.A.R.T. SHELTER TRANSPORT ANIMAL RESCUE TEAM (A 501c3 non-profit) was formed in May 2011 by Steve Spiro, Suzanna Urszuly, Rene Ruston and Adam Tarshsis.

They began raising money and transporting dogs from high kill shelters here in LA and sending them via van or plane to Oregon, Washington (WA) and Canada where they go to reputable no kill shelters or foster homes.

To date they have transported 1468 doomed death row dogs who are placed into loving homes.

Each transport costs between $2500-$3500 depending on the destination of the receiving group.

THE GOAL – to raise enough money to fund at least 8 transports a month.

They are also are teaming up with a pilot who can fly 30 dogs at a time and made the local news.

Happy one year anniversary guys! You are awesome.

What a great group! What a night. The bands. The people. Of course the dogs. Thank you Rene for asking me to photograph your event. It was a blast. If you don’t know about Rock and Rescue you are missing out! They know how to put on a show so don’t miss their next event.

Wow. I got to meet Betty White and spend the afternoon with her. What a thrill. What an honor. What a very special lady. And she is so full of love and joy. And she laughs all the time. And she makes everyone feel like they are the only one in the room. No wonder she is such a success. She is one of the most genuine people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I’m sure everyone who met her at the Montecito Guide Dog event would agree. 🙂

Don’t forget to adjust the volume. Enjoy the slide show.

Once again I was blown away by the folks at this event. And the dogs too. The families that raise these dogs from puppies for a blind person’s seeing eye dog are so selfless and wonderful. Really. I couldn’t do it. I’m so glad they are able to, because what a difference these dogs make in people’s lives.

It was so cool seeing the puppies from last year again. I got to photograph the “puppy exchange” ceremony last year too. It’s the event where the 18 month old dogs are ready to go on to the next step of their journey. Training camp. 🙂 It’s also the day the new 8 week old puppies are given to their family for the first part of their training. Some families have been doing this for 17 years. Holy cow! That’s a lot of puppy training and a lot of seeing eye dogs. (Anyone out there that would like more information on becoming a puppy raiser, take a look here)

I also got to meet the blind people these dogs help so much. Truly amazing. Thank you so much Janet, for inviting me back. I hope you enjoy this little sneak peek. I’ll email you when the rest are done and ready for viewing. Until then, enjoy!
